About Us

Film manufacturer since 1959.

Blown film extrusion - for over 60 years

The exciting new applications for the material polyethylene (PE), at the nearby company BASF, led Karl Eisemann to set up the first machines for manufacturing bags from film on the premises of his metalworking and plumbing workshop in Ludwigshafen-Ruchheim. In 1959 he founded the company RHEIN-PLAST to do this. The company remained under the management and ownership of the Eisemann family until 2022, when it was sold to the RINGMETALL SE group of companies – a publicly listed Munich-based group of companies – as part of reorganisation measures and the effects of the corona pandemic. Newly positioned, it forms there together with Nittel GmbH, Tesseraux GmbH, Liner Factory GmbH & Co. KG and the US company Protective Lining Inc. the INDUSTRIAL PACKAGING LINER business area. This strengthens the Group’s market position in the field of industrial special packaging. In Bad Dürkheim, recyclable bags and sacks made of PE monofilms are produced in our own blown film extrusion, printing and conversion facilities.

Facts & Figures

Interesting facts in numbers.

RHEIN-PLAST GmbH was founded in 1959 by 3 brothers and was an independent, medium-sized family business until January 2022. After an extensive restructuring programme, the company employing just under 100 people was transferred to the Ringmetall Group (over € 200 million turnover with over 800 employees worldwide), a leading supplier in the field of industrial special packaging.

The company’s own premises of over 25,000 m2 are home to 2 plants with extrusion and assembly lines. With a production and office area of approx. 4,000 m2 and a 1,500 m2 warehouse, Rhein-Plast currently has a maximum production capacity of up to 6,000 tonnes of PE film per year.

Antistatic film in Pharmagrade (Ph.Eur. 3.1.3) now available

Under the abbreviation Ph.Eur. 3.1.3 hides the European Pharmacopoeia, which in this section strictly regulates how a packaging material made of polyolefins must be designed so that it can be used safely and with low risk, for example in the filling of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) Since additives in a film are always viewed critically in this context – because of the danger of diffusing into the film – an antistatic film equipped with additives that is officially approved was a long-standing request from customers who have to fill highly sensitive materials in ATEX zones. With a new development together with a partner, Rhein-Plast has now been able to bridge the gap between explosion protection and maximum safety against contamination of the active ingredients. The film in Pharmagrade is available now including documentation, certificates and declarations.

Let’s go round! – Round bottom bags from Rhein-Plast

The sustainable use of secondary containers such as drums, hobbocks or buckets is becoming increasingly important in the industry. The containers are lined with inliners, so-called round bottom bags, which by their shape fit the round containers. The cleaning effort for the containers is thus significantly reduced and the containers can be used several times. Mono films made of polyethylene are ideally suited for this purpose due to their very good recycling properties. Reason enough for Rhein-Plast -in cooperation with its sister companies- to now also offer this type of packaging.
